Gift of Life Fundraiser, September 24 at 6pm

The Rotary Club of Wall Street New York invites you to a fundraiser for the Gift of Life Foundation taking place at Maggie’s Place Bar and Restaurant on September 24, 2014 from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Please join The Rotary Club of Wall Street on September 24th for our third Guest Bartender Night at Maggie’s Place, a fine eating and drinking establishment, located at 47th St. and Madison Ave. The format of the evening is an informal Social supporting a great cause, The Gift of Life Foundation.

For more than 30 years, Rotary Clubs have supported the Gift of Life International program. During this time, the equivalent of $500 million has been raised and more than 10,000 children, from over 60 countries, have been saved. We help fund a heart operation for a young child who is in dire need of an operation that is not available in their native community. We bring the child and the mother to NYC and provide housing for them in our homes. We provide financial assistance and work with local hospitals to provide heart surgeries at a significantly reduced rate by dedicated Health professionals. In the short 5 year history of our club we have assisted with surgeries for 2 Gift of Life children.

Please bring as many friends as you would like and join Rotarians, from the NYC Metro Area, and our friends to socialize and make new friends. There are no cover charges or raffles. Maggie’s Place has generously allowed us to collect all the tips that you would normally provide to the Bartenders. We have grand plans to multiply the proceeds, raised from the night, through matching grants from corporate sponsors and Rotary. So, your modest contribution will truly go a long way towards saving a young child’s life. The previous events were great fun and we expect a huge turnout this year. Please join us on September 24th from 6 pm to 9 pm and help us support a great cause.

Gift of Life: fundraising results

Congratulations to Stanley and the entire club. As you know September 18 was our yearly fundraiser for the “Gift of Life.” Stanley Kules arranged for this event at Maggie’s Place where he tended bar and all tips through the event went to “Gift of Life.” The event was a success on all fronts. First we raised $1,200 from members and guests. In addition, we received an extra $1,000 from Maggie’s Place for winning their bar contest. We raised $2,200 for “Gift of Life” in one night. Thank you to everyone who attended and congratulations to Stanley Kules for organizing this event!

“Thank you!” from Dea

Dear Rotary Club of Wall Street Members,

Hope all is well with you.

As all of you know, Dea, the Gift of Life child that our Club sponsored, was released from the hospital about a month ago to recuperate at a host family’s place in Riverdale. During her stay with the host family, she became healthier, stronger, and more energetic each day. She gained four pounds and grew an inch taller too! Dea recuperated as well as doctors had expected so she and her mother were able to go home as planned on Thursday night. I was just informed that they had arrived home in Kosova safe and sound.

Dea and Ajshe are grateful to all the Club had done for them, giving her a new heart and a start of a new chapter in her life. Dea asked me to convey a message to you…..”Because of you, I can now smile and I can live a normal life. Thank you.”

Special thanks to Chrissy Livergood, who greeted Dea and Ajshe at the airport when they arrived; Susanne Gellert, who purchased toys for Dea and visited them at the hospital; Fabiola Eyholzer Stump, who visited them at the hospital / at the host family’s residence, and gave a pair of hip colorful sneakers to Dea; Christina Mendez, who purchased gifts for Dea and her siblings on behalf of the Club, Thomas Rudy, who visited them at the hospital and gave them continuous support; and last but not least, Ralf Wimmershoff, who took them to lunch, visited them at the hospital / at the host family’s residence, and attended at Dea’s farewell pizza party on behalf of the Club.

All of you have impacted a little girl and her family’s life. Thank you so much for all your support. Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

All the best,

Kazumi

Dea is doing well!

One of our new members, Fabiola, has volunteered to visit with Dea, our Gift of Life child, and her mother, Ajshe, after Dea’s surgery. Dea is doing well, and her doctors are happy with her progress at her follow up visits!

Dea is doing well!

Hello RCWS Members & Friends,

Just wanted to update you on Dea’s condition. I was able to visit Dea and Ajshe on yesterday afternoon and met their new host family in Riverdale. Dea was so energetic, walking around, talking, eating, laughing……being a normal 8 year old girl. Her scar seems to be healing well too. It was hard to believe she had an open heart surgery just 10 days ago. Great to see her recovering so well. Great to see her smile.

On Friday afternoon, I received a call and an email from the childcare committee of Gift of Life that Dea needed warm clothes and a pair of pajamas so I took the liberty to purchase some clothes for her. I got a pair of pajamas, two sweatshirts , two sweatpants, one jacket, and two pairs of jeans (see attached) for $37 including tax! They were having a big sale:-) She tried some of them on and they fit perfectly (a little big but she can grow into them) and she loved them……mission accomplished!

On Monday, Dea will have her doctor’s appointment. They have about three weeks left before they go home so please show them your support if you can. If any of you want to go visit them, please let me know.

Please contact us with the date and the approximate time that you would like to visit.

Best,

Kazumi
